It’s finally May!!

And you know what that means, right dancers?

It means that THE DEADLINE FOR THE CHOREOGRAPHY CONTEST is coming soon! We know you’re all busy with dance/school/finals, but grab some old choreography, set it to My Heart Will Go On, press that record button, and send it on in to us here at DP!

Let’s get this dance party going! C’mon ladies and gents, I know you can dance…now just show me. PROVE IT.

i just wanted to say thank you. i quit taking dance classes in november because i was having problems with a lot of different things. i started doing color guard which is great but sometimes i really miss ballet class. today i put on my old pointe shoes and almost cried. looking at your blog today made me remember all my good times at dance. thank you!

Awe! This post made me tear up over here. We had a senior ballet rehearsal yesterday to learn our farewell dance, and we all got a little teary-eyed at the idea of graduating and leaving the studio. I’m glad we could make you remember all the good times! :’)

A CONTEST IS BEING PUT INTO EFFECT!!

Hey guys! Today is the official 100 year anniversary of the epic Titanic crash, so obviously I’ve had My Heart Will Go On/Rose’s Theme stuck in my head all day. As a result, we’re installing The Choreography Contest on DanceProblems!
Create and record a lyrical/contemporary choreography number to My Heart Will Go On, post it to your personal tumblr, and then message us a link to your video! You do not have to use the full song, any part you feel works best! All ages are welcome, but please limit the routine to 1 or 2 dancers only! The Choreography Contest officially starts April 14 and ends May 15! We will watch all submitted videos and will then announce the winner on May 18th!

OH! We almost forgot to mention the best part! The winner of The Choreography Contest will recieve a free customized DANCE PROBLEMS TSHIRT and will (if they accept!) have their video featured on DanceProblems!

so i saw you're suggestions for songs and they are really good songs... i already did dances to like 4 of them... so i want to know what one you think is better to do a dance thats either contemporary or lyrical "first love" -Adele... "you're the one that i want" -Angus and julia stone... or "Meaning (stripped version)" -Gavin Degraw

All three of these songs are in my top played list on my Zune account! Buuuuut, I’m going to have to go with Gavin Degraw’s “Meaning (Stripped Version)” on this one. First Love is great, but lacks the powerful, emotion-filled music needed for a truly great contemp choreo number in my opinion. Hope this helped! Feel free to record your choreo and send it in to us! Erm, I've been looking for two songs for my GCSE Dance piece, but I can't seem to find ones that work good together. At the moment, I need a "fragile" song, preferably with one or two instruments (preferably piano and something else) and it needs to be in 4/4. ...Or an epic song that's got quite a lot going on, needs to sound messy and it has to be in 3/4. I can't find any songs and I can't work on my piece until I do. Does anyone have any suggestions pleases?

for the fragile song, I would recommend Arms or Thousand Years by Christina Perri; Gravity, Between the Lines, or City by Sara Bareilles; Ghost, The Chain, or the classic ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love With You’ by Ingrid Michaelson; Satellite Heart by Anya Marina, Hallelujah by Kate Voegele; and My Love by Sia.
As for the messy song, I’d have to recommend anything by Sigur Ros, and Jonsi. Hope this helped you! Click on the song name to listen to the song on YouTube!

i just went through all your pages and was able to relate to all of it. i have been dancing for ten years and teaching for four, and i recently had to quit because i graduated and i can't handle school and dance at the same time. i tap in the bathroom in my dorm now and i cry when i see good choreo. i wish i had never left my studio, but i can't control time. thank you for not letting me forget who i was by reminding me of all the little things that i now miss with all my heart.
